| Who: | Adults in Literacy Programs and Adult Education Programs, including Basic Skills, ESL, GED, Workplace, and Family Literacy Programs | |
| What: | A Writing Contest and Event. Sixteen writers will win $25 each. | |
| Topics: | Choose one theme from the following: | |

What is your job? What do you do well? Why is it important? What do you like best about your job? Tell a story about a day at work; maybe it was your first day; maybe it was your best day; maybe maybe it was your best day; something special happened that day. | |

Why is it important to you? What valuable lessons have you learned? How do you encourage others to learn? Tell about someone who has made a positive impact on your learning. | |
|
Who is your favorite family member? Describe a favorite family gathering. This may be humorous or sad. What do you cherish most about your family? | |
|
What unique challenges or changes have you faced in your life? How did you handle it? Describe your triumph or challenge. | |
| Format: | Writings must be neatly handwritten or typed and limited to 650 words or less. For typed submisions, please double-space with 1 inch margins and a 12-point font. Stories can be very sort; there is no minimum length. A completed entry form must be attached to all writings. Be creative! Original poems are welcome. Awards will be chosen based upon story, originality and clarity of writing.See rules and tips for writers for further details. A team of RLCC members and community representatives will judge writings. | |

Awards Presentation: Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 6:00 PM at Martin Luther King Performing Arts Center,, 1400 Melbourne Road, Charlottesville. All writers, their families, and friends are invited to attend and share their writings. Every entry will be published in a book. All writers will receive a free copy.
