French Instruction

The Alliance Française is known around the world for the quality of its French instruction. Courses focus on communication and are taught by French native speakers with degrees in teaching French.

L’Alliance Française of Charlottesville offers many types of courses: adult and children's classes from formal language acquisition classes, conversation classes to tutoring and specialized French.
For the past 15 years, L'Alliance Française de Charlottesville has helped you improve your knowledge of the French language and culture.

This year, afternoon programs in Albemarle County Schools will be offered in Broadus Wood, Merriwether Lewis, and Crozet elementary schools.

In the classroom :

• We offer you the best curriculum and the best learning tools that combine a teaching of quality with a low teacher/student ratio, in a friendly and fun atmosphere.

• Teachers are native French speakers from France or French-speaking areas of the world, specialized in teaching French as a Foreign Language. Therefore, students are always immersed in authentic French language.

Teaching materials published by French Publishers for the teaching of French as a Foreign Language are used in our classes. They usually include audio CDs for class and home study.

We also offer English Grammar classes for students of French of all ages as well as English improvement classes for adults and Francophones.

Outside of the classroom:

We guarantee complete immersion sessions by offering trips to Besançon, our sister city in France with studies at the Centre de Langues Appliquées of the University of Franche-Comté.

Social and Cultural events will also help you boost your fluency:

• the Alliance Française offers a French cultural and social platform by organizing French-speaking lucheons, lectures, book signings, musical events, wine and cheese tastings, social gatherings, commemorations and historical events, thus creating an engaging Francophone network in Charlottesville.

Registration Policy: Payment must be made in full at the time of registration. Refunds: In view of our non-for-profit status, of our commitment to keeping tuition costs down and our responsibility to teachers, fees can not be refunded after the first week of session, or transferred to another session. A refund minus the cost of the first class, will be allowed.
