• Protection for refugees who might be tortured, killed, or wrongfully imprisoned in their own countries
• Fair and prompt trials for all political prisoners
• Applies a single, internationally agreed upon human rights standard to all governments;
• Conducts internationally respected research on human rights issues;
• Has more than 1 million members in over 150 countries;
• Is funded solely by private donations from supporters; receives no money from any government;
• Received the 1977 Nobel peace Prize.
