the famous culvert work party !...
A very good turnout on Saturday, June 12 got concrete poured in the Marsh Run west culvert. Led by maestro Cliff Smith, your neighbors found out how to get 9 cubic yards of concrete from the road down into a subterranean pipe.
We've the got the crew, we've got the pump, all we need is the concrete.
Joe Porterfield making sure the culvert stays put before the pour.
You either need a pump truck like this or about 100 guys with wheelbarrows - this is faster.
Here's where the concrete will go, once Kip Newland moves and if the truck ever gets here.
Now we've got the concrete, and it starts its trip through the black pipe on the right...
...down the bank and into the culvert...
...and into the bottom of the culvert. Cliff Smith holds the business end, while Bill Johnson, Joe Porterfield and Tim Waterbury handle the finish work.
If you like making mud pies, you should consider concrete work as a career.
Here's what it looked like (from the north end) when we were done.
New treasurer Kip Newland writes his first check as Treasurer Emeritus Jim Halter offers advice.
Here's most of the crew. From the left Jim Halter, John Millard, Garland Oliver, Tim Waterbury, Jerry Carpenter, Kip Newland, Mary Kostishak, Cliff Smith, Bill Johnson, Tony Townsend, Nathan and Wes (from Hydra-crete, Inc.), Vic Terranova. Work Party contributors missing from the shot are Jim Miller, Joe Porterfield, Karin Halter, Jean Newland and Judy Townsend.
