Introduction

We at Barrett Early Learning Center believe that a parent or legal guardian is an integral and indispensable part of a child's educational process, an essential determinant of the future success of the child.

Involvement of parents and guardians is encouraged and facilitated through volunteerism, parent-teacher events, parent education and development workshops and other family oriented events.

Referrals for families and children are provided to appropriate community resources or agencies as appropriate (e.g. health care providers, social services, emergency services, counseling, etc.).

Parents and children are requested to visit the Center prior to enrollment to see if and how the Center may meet their individual needs.

Barrett Early Learning Center is a state licensed facility providing services to children ranging in age from 2 to 5 years. Enrollment is open to any child of the appropriate age without regard to race, sex, creed, religion or national origin.

Purpose

Our purpose is to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for children, and to ensure that they have opportunities for physical, emotional, social and intellectual growth. The goal of Barrett Early Learning Center is to promote and foster growth and development in young children by providing a high quality child care environment that offers a variety of sensory, language, cognitive and social experiences which generate a love for learning and prepare children for grade school.

Philosophy

We believe that a child’s early years provide the foundation for growth and development for the rest of his or her life. We believe that excitement for learning is best generated in a setting that presents challenging and supportive experiences which encourage creative thinking and problem solving; allows decision- and choice-making within appropriate limits, and fosters love and respect for self and others. We believe that parents are an integral part of the educational process and encourage their participation in all Center activities and events.

Curriculum

The Center uses a variety of resources as a guide to address all aspects of a child’s development: cognitive/intellectual, physical and social-emotional. Teachers offer developmentally appropriate learning experiences that encourage active exploration and hands on learning. Ongoing assessment of children’s skills, needs and abilities influences the teachers’ planning and teaching.

Goals

  • Helping children learn to do things for themselves and make decisions and choices.
  • Helping children learn to get along with others.
  • Helping children develop self esteem and a positive self image.
  • Teaching children good health practices, hygiene and nutrition.
  • Providing a variety of experiences through learning by discovery.
  • Providing age-appropriate learning activities that will help prepare children for kindergarten and later schooling.

Tuition Payments

Tuition payments are made in advance and are expected no later than on the Monday before the upcoming week. Full payment is expected regardless of the child’s attendance or number of absences unless the parent/guardian notifies the Center in advance that they will not be needing the Center’s services.

Overdue or unpaid payments

If a family carries a balance due greater than $15 for more than 30 days without making payments of at least 50% of the balance due the child may not attend the Center after that 30 day period. Once the balance due has been paid, a family may make arrangements with the Director of the Center for their child to return to if there is a space available in her/his class. If payments made by the Department of Social Services, or payments made by any other agency, are cancelled for any reason, it is the family's responsibility to cover the cost of tuition for the child to attend the Center. Please stop in and see the Director to make payment arrangements if you begin to experience any difficulty in making your payments. We would like your child to continue attending Barrett and may be able to work out a payment plan with you. Otherwise, your child's space in the classroom needs to be made available to a paying family. The Center relies on tuition payments in order to pay our teachers and keep the Center open and running.

Absentee Policy

If a child is absent for more than 2 weeks (10 school days) without notice from the parent/guardian, the child will be withdrawn from the class and the space will be made available to another child. For families receiving DSS assistance, the Department of Social Services pays for 5 absences per month. The family is responsible for paying the Center for any additional absences.

Late Pickup

Parents that arrive late to pickup their child will be charged $10.00 for each additional quarter-hour.

Meals

Please do not send any meals from home to the Center. Breakfast, lunch and snack are provided at no additional cost.
