        NAMI Blue Ridge Family Alliance Meetings

 

Support group meetings, for families and friends of persons who have a serious mental illness, are held every first Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00.  Our support group meetings are held in the Board Room of the Region Ten location at 505 Old Lynchburg Rd in Charlottesville.

Directions: From I64 exit 120, take 5th Street Extended south (away from Charlottesville) for just over half a mile to Old Lynchburg Rd on the right. (The entrance to the new county office building will be on your left.)  Turn right on Old Lynchburg Rd and then right again at the first driveway.  The Board Room is in the single-story Region Ten administrative building at the rear of the property.

Visitors are welcome.


The next support group meetings will be held on the following first  Thursdays:   Oct 2, Nov 6, Dec 4, Jan 8, Feb 5, Mar 5, Apr 2, May 7, Jun 4

Residential Treatment Programs

Daniel Herr is Executive Director of Gateway Homes, which has a suburban campus in the Richmond area.  Warren McKeen is Executive Director of Crossing Creeks, which has a working farm in the Harrisonburg area.  Gateway and Crossing Creeks are examples of exciting, but very different, residential treatment programs for people with mental illnesses.  Mr. Herr and Mr. McKeen will discuss their programs and answer any questions that you may have.

Mentally Ill People in Other Cultures

Dr. Niels Nielsen is a psychiatrist at the University of Virginia who has worked on cross-cultural seminars for UVA doctors and residents.  Jenny Oliver is Executive Director of Mental Health America in Charlottesville.  Dr. Nielsen and Ms. Oliver will join us to discuss how other cultures view people with mental illnesses, their roles in the community and their treatment options.
