Local chapter of a national organization of legal
professionals. Membership in the local chapter includes
membership in the State organization known as VALS . . .
the Association for Legal Professionals and NALS . . . the
Association for Legal Professionals.
Meetings are held once a month, the third Tuesday of
the month, usually at a local restaurant. There is no charge for
the meetings except for individual cost of the meal if the
attendee wants to eat dinner or lunch. Typical price of dinner
meals: $10 - 15. Meetings include speakers on topics related to
the legal profession.
Past programs have been on legal ethics, elder law,
Virginia public defender's office, sheriff's duties in outlying
jurisdictions, use of voice recognition software in court
reporting industry, copyright law and cable television
franchises.
Purposes of CALSA: To stimulate a high order of
professional standards and ethics among its members; to advance
the education of its members; to cooperate with and assist
attorneys, judges, bar associations and their affiliates; and to
establish good fellowship among its members.
Membership is open to anyone engaged in work of a legal nature
from Charlottesville, Albemarle County or any of the outlying
counties. Our members are legal secretaries, legal assistants,
bookkeepers, paralegals, office managers, court reporters,
judicial secretaries, legal administrators, and court
administrators.
