THIRTY-SIXTH ANNUAL
CHARLOTTESVILLE/ALBEMARLE CROP HUNGER WALK

Message to CROP Hunger Walkers:
Thank you for agreeing to participate in this year's CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday, October 14th. Registration for the CROP Hunger Walk begins at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church on Park Street. The Opening Ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m.
Our CROP Hunger Walk will follow the 10 kilometer loop route which starts and ends at First Presbyterian Church. We will walk through the Downtown Mall, out Ridge Street and then along Cherry Avenue and Jefferson Park Avenue and back on Main Street. Along the way refreshments, rest rooms, and encouragement are offered at rest stops.
The purpose of the CROP Hunger Walk is to:
1. Educate our community about the needs of hungry people in our community and around the world through sponsorship of this service project in which people of all ages can participate.
2. Raise funds to help hungry people survive and become self-reliant ($36,437 last year). The money also provides assistance in healing and restoring individual lives hurt by natural disasters (e.g., hurricanes, floods, famines) and war.
3. Distribute 25% of the money raised to the local Community Meals on Wheels and the Emergency Food Bank and 75% to support the hunger, refugee, and disaster relief efforts Church World Service, an international hunger and relief agency.
Please get as many sponsors as you can. The more you have the more we can help. Last year our walkers raised an average of $130 each. Please try to collect as much of your money as you can in advance. Encourage people to pay with checks made out to CROP Hunger Walk.
The Day of the CROP Hunger Walk:
* Dress comfortably with good walking shoes.
* Sign in at the Registration Table. If you have already collected all your money, you may turn in your Sponsor-envelope at Registration. Otherwise, please bring your sign-up sheet to the CROP Hunger Walk registration. The sign-up sheet can be separated from your Sponsor-envelope, so you can leave your envelope at home or in a safe place during the walk.
* Please remember that we are guests in the neighborhoods. Please do not litter.
* Be careful. Walk on the side-walks and look out for automobiles.
Afterwards complete the collections from your sponsors, and then turn-in your Sponsor-envelope with your money to your RECRUITER. Alternately, they may be turned in to Joyce Kerns (Tuesday-Friday, phone: 293-3133, ext. 100) at the Westminster Presbyterian Church Office Building at the back of 190 Rugby Road. Please do not use the Fellowship Hall mail drop box.
