The meeting of the membership on Tuesday, September 2 will be held in a new location - the Judge Advocate General (JAG) School near the UVA campus. This is a one time trial but if it works well and is popular with the membership, we plan to schedule some of our future meetings at this facility. The JAG school is located on Massie Road, next to the UVA Law School. You can get there by turning off Emmet Street onto Arlington Blvd. at the south end of the Barracks Road shopping center (by McDonalds). Go to the stop sign at the end and turn right onto Massie Road. The JAG school will be on your left. There is parking in front of or on the right side of the building. Check in with the guard at the desk as you enter and he will direct you to the meeting room. We plan to start the meeting at about 6:45. There will be no food served at the meeting but for those of you who would like to gather for dinner, we suggest that we meet at Wild Greens in the North Wing of the Barracks Road shopping center at about 5:15. If you have the Hospice of the Piedmont dining coupon book for 2002-2003, there is a 'twofer' for Wild Greens that can be used on Tuesday evenings. Reservations are suggested. |
Patricia's Ponderings by Patricia Travers
The Club gives a warm welcome to John and ha Porter who are new members as of the July meeting and friends of the Stolls.
Atlanta has assigned us Calgary, Alberta as an inbound for 2004. We will need an ED for that exchange and also an ED for San Diego in-bound in April (garden week). Please let me know if you are interested in being ED.
John Webster has been approved by the board to be ED for Costa Rica for 2004 and is already in communication with that club. Helen Ida will assist him. The date is to be established.
At the annual meeting at the Fickes in July the club voted on an Exchange Directors'
Compensation effective immediately:
|
The ambassadors will pay all fees and all travel expenses of ED to and from destination, on foreign, regional and domestic exchanges, if the group totals 20 and more persons. If the group totals less than 20 or more persons, expenses will be paid pro rata. Atlanta will pay ED club fees on a pro rata basis on outbound. |
A few ambassadors from Ottawa will be here for an unofficial visit the 14, 15, and 16 of October. Housing arrangements have been made. I plan to have a potluck here at our house on the 15 of October at 6 pm. If you are interested in participating please let me know by the 8th of October. George and I will be in Italy September 16 until October 5
Our next meeting is Sept 2 at the JAG School. Chuck Johnson has been working hard on this event and I am sure it will be very interesting. The meeting will start at 6:45. Please remember to let Chuck know if you will be bringing a guest to the September meeting at the JAG School.
With all the events that the club has planned I do hope you will bring friends along. The Costa Rica exchange should be a wonderful opportunity to make new friends.
New Board Election
The Board of officers for the 2004 administrative year will be conducted at the September General Membership meeting. Please be there to exercise your voting privilege.
The nominating committee of Cheryl Kasper, Hy Badler and Chuck Johnson proposed the following as the 2004 slate of officers at the July meeting:
For President Chuck Johnson For President-Elect John Webster For Vice President Rita Stoll For Treasurer Sue Corney For Secretary Ann Beardon
Congratulations and thanks to these members willing to serve in these important positions. The Club also thanks the nominating committee for its service.

Fundraising By Ann Fa.rwell
The Food Lion Shop and Share Program has approved FFC for participation in the program in 2004. If you were enrolled in 2003, it will be necessary to re-enroll by re-linking your MVP card by December 31, 2003. You may do this via the web at www.foodlion.com , or by telephone at 704 633-8250, extension 3810. Have your MVP card number handy. You will also need to provide the last three digits of your last name.
If you are not currently enrolled, please do so. It is an easy fund raiser. Call 704 633-8250, extension 3810. You will be asked for your MVP number, first and last name, address, and telephone number. When your card is presented at check-out, FFC will be automatically credited. Please get on-board with this opportunity.
FFC will participate in the Barnes & Noble Christmas Gift Wrapping fundraiser again this year. The work dates for FFC are November 28, December 1, December 11, December 14, December 17, and December 22 - a total of 27 hours. The Club needs about 24 members to cover the time. This is based on shifts of two to two and one-half hours with two members on each shift. This is a very good fundraiser, and fund to do. Please consider working, and call me to volunteer. I want to finalize the schedule in late October, so please contact me soon. I am at 434-974-9985.

Cook Book Boogie By Ken Smith
I need two or three experienced sales oriented MEN to work with me to reduce our stock of cook books. I have some ideas to share as to sales approach. Some of you probably have good approaches as well. This is an opportunity for some of us to whet our salesmanship skills. Ann Farwell is arranging for FFC to sell the books at Barracks Road's Fall Sidewalk Sale event. Let's take advantage of this and other such events to move this merchandize.
Have you reviewed the book? I mean, really looked it over to understand just what a great collection of dishes it contains? Let's do our homework and develop a plan to complete this fundraiser.
