COUNSELING

Affordable and accessible professional counseling is available to meet a wide range of mental health needs from life transitions to emotional difficulties such as depression and anxiety to family and relationship problems. Counseling is available to women, men, and children.

FOCUS believes that all individuals have the right to affordable counseling regardless of income. Some insurance plans are accepted. A sliding scale is available.

Obtaining Counseling
Call 434-293-2222, extension 27 to begin the counseling process. You will be asked a few general questions, and the fees for services will be determined. A Counselor will then call to arrange your first appointment, usually within a week. Counselors are professionally trained and licensed or licensure-eligible. They represent a variety of theoretical orientations.

All of your feelings are acceptable. They need expression, not repression.

Group Counseling
The resolution of problems and attainment of goals may be enhanced by a group experience. Counseling groups offer an individual the opportunity to share, learn, grow, and receive support with others who have similar needs.

Groups are conducted by professionally trained counselors. Fees depend on the group. A sliding scale is often available. Groups are available throughout the year. Check our calendar for call 434-293-2222, extension 27 for a current list of groups.

Workshops
Workshops, presentations, and demonstrations on a variety of topics are offered throughout the year. Some workshops, such as our Assertiveness Skills Training, have a fee. Many presentations and demonstrations are free of charge. Check our online calendar or call 434-293-2222, extension 27 for a current list.
