Schedule

Autumn 2008

  • Wednesday evenings

    Buddhist Study Group
Previously Taught by Ven. Geshe Jampel Thardo

Description of our prior study group is below.  Currently, we are having weekly prayer services at 7:00 p.m. through November 5th.  All are welcome to attend.   If you are interested in attending a Wed. evening or weekend meditation/Buddhist study group after Nov. 5th, please e-mail us at Jts108Va@aol.com or call (434) 980-1752.  We will be announcing the new schedule soon.

  • Meditation, prayer and teachings -- includes a 15 minute silent meditation each session.
  • Last Wednesday evening topic was the classic text on Nagarjuna's Letter to a Friend.
  • The text is a poetic rendition of 123 verses which covers the entire Mahayana (the Great Vehicle) path.  It is known for its unusual clarity & memorable imagery; this text is frequently quoted in written and oral commentaries on other Tibetan texts.
  • Nagarjuna is generally considered to be one of the most important historic figures of Mahayana Buddhism
  • The book is available for purchase at the meetings.

  • Excellent translation provided by Jann Ronis, Ph.D.
candidate in Buddhist Studies, University of Virginia. This is of great benefit in allowing for Geshe-la's profound knowledge of this topic to be presented, as well as participants' questions to be fully answered.

  • This topic is of benefit to students at all levels of practice.

                         All are welcome to attend!

  • $10 suggested donation for the Wednesday  sessions.
  • Donations are tax-deductible.
