The Kiwanis J. T. Graves Memorial Youth Scholarships

  • The youth scholarship program is unique to Kiwanis. It fits in well with the club's emphasis on children and youth. It complements our Sponsored Youth activities since the honorees are graduating seniors active in the Key Clubs at their respective high schools. Click here to see the most recent recipients.

  • Donations made in memory of J. T. Graves are used to augment the amount of scholarship money that the club budgets each year for the scholarships and raises through other fund-raising activities. Currently, Kiwanis awards six $500 scholarships. We realize that this amount is merely a symbolic recognition of a student's achievements. The club may choose to increase the number of scholarships awarded or the amount of each scholarship, or both. These decisions will be made at the beginning of each Kiwanis year by the incoming board of directors.

  • The scholarship program is on-going and makes a sustained contribution to the youth of this region.

  • By recognizing the top students in area high schools for their academic achievements as well as for their positive attitude towards community service, this program has the potential to be one of the largest and most visible projects of the many that the club sponsors.

  • J. T. Graves (1923-1998) was a prominent community leader (owner of Yellow Cab Company) and a most dedicated and beloved Kiwanian for more than 35 years.

  • The Kiwanis Club meets on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th Mondays at 6:30 p.m.  See program schedule for meeting location. Please contact Bob Pflugfelder, membership chair, at Pepsi Cola of Central VA, 978-2140.
