Chartered on April 3rd, 1922, the Kiwanis Club is one of the premier service organizations not only in Charlottesville, but worldwide as well. Forty-eight members come from many different backgrounds. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. There are over 350,000 members in 84 countries around the world. The Charlottesville Club is one of more than 180 Kiwanis Clubs in the Capital District, providing community service throughout: Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Division 5 of the Capital District has clubs in: Charlottesville, Alleghany Highlands, Buena Vista, Harrisonburg, Lexington, Shenandoah Valley, Staunton, and Waynesboro. Division 5 along with Division 19, with clubs in Blue Ridge, Clarke County, Front Royal, and Winchester, constitute the Presidential Region of the Capital District. Club meets first, second, third, and fifth Mondays. Fourth Monday is a service "work night" at a different local agency each month.
