It's holiday time, and you are invited to celebrate with fellow Leaguers! President Marge Cox has graciously opened her home for the evening and there will be lots of tasty "finger-foods" to nibble on and holiday quaffs! Please join us for a lovely evening of fellowship!

1. Take Interstate 64 to the Ivy Exit (#114).
2. At the bottom of the exit ramp, go SOUTH on Route 637 (also called Dick Woods Road). Going South means that you will turn left at the bottom of the ramp if you are coming from Charlottesville OR, if you are coming from the Crozet direction, you will turn right.
3. Continue 0.7 mile on Route 637 to Rosemont Drive which will be on your left. There is a stone wall as well as a large Rosemont sign, but there are no lights at the entrance.
4. Turn left into Rosemont Drive and continue for one mile . You will drive past a pond and then start up the mountain. Our house, number 514 Rosemont Drive, will be the third house on the right after you have passed the pond. It is fine to park on the grass at the edge of the road on either side of Rosemont Drive after the driveway places have been filled.
Lunch with the Legislators scheduled for Friday, January 9, 2009, Noon, at the Boar's Head Inn, Charlottesville
The six state legislators who represent Charlottesville and Albemarle County have been invited to attend the annual League of Women Voters Legislative Luncheon at the Boar's Head Inn, on Friday, January 9, at noon. This is your opportunity to greet and meet your local representatives who will give brief presentations about the upcoming legislative session and then respond to questions from you, the audience.
We count on great League attendance to maintain this enlightening community event! So put January 9 on your calendar and send in your reservations. And please invite a friend to join you. If every member could bring one friend who might be interested in hearing from their legislators, our numbers would be greatly increased and help keep this valued event alive.
Email lwv@avenue.org or call 970-1707 by 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 30 to make reservations for luncheon (soup, hearty lunch salad entree, dessert, coffee or tea). Cost of lunch: $25. Make your check out to the LWV and mail it to the office: League of Women Voters, 1936 Arlington Blvd., #116, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
Program Planning at January 13 Board Meeting at Virginia National Bank, Emmet St. and Arlington Blvd., Charlottesville 4-6 pm
All members are encouraged to attend the Board Meeting on January 13 to participate in the annual Program Planning of the League for 2009-10. This is the time to consider our current LWV programs at the state and local levels. Do we wish to retain current positions, to act on them, and/or to begin new studies with the goal of establishing consensus and positions for action on other issues? This is what your League of Women Voters is all about and program planning is your opportunity to weigh in. You can find a list of the state positions on page 6 of your red 2008-09 Membership Directory. For further details about the state positions, go online to www.lwv-va.org and click on "About the League;" then Positions, and finally "Complete Positions 2007." We will provide copies of these positions at the January 13 meeting. Our local positions can be found on pages 7-9 in your Membership Directory, which you can bring with you to the meeting. For further information, contact the office, 970-1707.
Annual Finance Drive "Send Out the Letters" morning on Saturday, January 31, 9:30 am to noon
In this year of economic uncertainty, it is all the more important that we put forth a devoted effort as members of our local league by helping with the annual "sending out the finance campaign letters" morning. This is the time that we send out our annual request for monies to the operating fund and the education fund of our local league, and it's especially helpful to have members make little notes of encouragement on the letters that go out, as well as help with the stuffing and mailing of the envelopes. Ruth Wadlington, treasurer, will host the event at her home, 1620 Keith Valley Rd., Charlottesville. Call Ruth at 293-6251 for directions to her house. Please come! We need all the help we can get and it's a fun morning too!
