Martha
Smith reported that minutes from May 2007 meeting are not available. Motion to
install new officers; seconded and approved.
Gayle Millner described functions and activities of MHSMBI:
- Supports all bands and the
flags
- Provides the welcome package at
start of school year
- Pays various expenses including
band camp costs, entrance fees for competitions, trips, compensation for
instructors, etc.
- Provides meal plan for home
football games
- Runs concessions for MHS fall
sports (next year winter sports)
Introduction
of Martha Beverly:
- Plans and coordinates the
Spring Trip
- Coordinates volunteers for
concessions and Jefferson Classic
- Volunteer and contact sheets
from welcome package—please return
Web site is
being updated by Gale Smith and is expected to be up this week. New web address will be provided.
Fundraisers:
- Martha Smith discussed how
fundraisers raise money for both MHSMBI and for individual students.
- How student accounts are
maintained and allocated. Account
stays with Boosters, can be transferred to another student, e.g. sibling,
upon student’s departure from band.
- Ana Abad-Jorge discussed how
student accounts records are kept.
She will provide the account balance for a student upon request.
Band
information and activities (Gayle Millner):
- Home football games (and away
game at Louisa) required for marching band members.
- Remember-- Band Camp exhibition
Friday night at 9:30.
- Black box is where to put money
and forms for band director (secure).
- Students are to stay till end
of game, turn in uniforms.
- Check for uniform fee needs to
be made out to MHS. This is a school
fee and will affect right to walk at graduation, etc.
- Check for meal plan payable to
MHSMBI
- Jazz and stage bands meet
before school (7:30) on alternate mornings
- Individuals may audition and
qualify for districts, etc.
- Holiday parade at Barracks Road Shopping Center day after Thanksgiving
- Musicians needed for orchestra
for school musical
- Underclassmen play for
graduation in June
- No marching in Dogwood Parade
this year—Spring Trip will be that weekend (not during spring break)
Fundraisers
(Martha Smith):
- Jefferson Classic Ads—50% of
income goes to student
- March-a-thon—
- Students will receive packet
-- get sponsors 50/50 split with Boosters. Due on October 6 at Jefferson Classic
- Participating students get
certificate; get medallion for $100 or more.
- Discussion re March-a-thon donation
tax deductibility;
will consider providing documentation re tax deductible
status.

Fundraisers: Cookie dough, Virginia Diner peanuts,
poinsettias, citrus fruit, candles, pizza.
Chairperson needed for cookie dough.

Students
may do as many or as few fundraisers as they want.

Concessions:

Fall
sports this year.

Martha
Beverly will recruit volunteers.

There
is a manager for each sport.
o
Please
do at least two games.
o
Students
may work concessions, but cannot handle money.
Jefferson Classic:
- Randy and Gale Smith will
coordinate
- Many volunteers needed (Martha
Beverly will recruit)
- Dean Riddick—site and facility
- Sam Mangano--call
for tractors, small trailers—need 8’ by 10’ or 12’
- Parking of busses
- Greeters—escort band, tell
director what to do, etc.
- Caregrams, money, etc. –Co treasurers
will handle.
- Cleanup—needs to be done after
show.
Martha
Beverly--Spring Trip to Toronto/Niagara Falls (Martha Beverly):
- Leave MHS Wednesday evening,
April 16, c. 9:00 PM
- Arrive Thursday AM at Niagara Falls
- Arrive in Toronto Thursday PM
- Friday—performances, visit to
school
- Saturday—Marching performance
- Sunday—return home by c. 10.00

payments, passports, etc. will be provided
