Quilt Show IX held on March 31 and April 1, 2007

Our most recent biennial quilt show was held March 31 and April 1, 2007, at the East Rivanna Fire Station at Glenmore, just east of Charlottesville, VA. Pam Desmond and Mona Houle co-chaired the show, which all agree was a resounding success. We had over 150 quilts displayed and over 500 attendees, making this event a wonderful opportunity to share our craft with the larger community and to raise funds to support our guild. Many thanks to all of the members who worked so hard to make this show a success. And a special thank you goes out to the husbands who lent their skills to the quilt show setup and takedown.

Our show also included a silent auction of quilted items made by guild members, a merchants' mall, a raffle quilt, the results of several challenge contests, and viewers' choice awards in six categories. The show featured a special commemorative exhibit of the quilts made by long-time member Joan Crump, who passed away in 2006.

2007 Challenge Quilts

Guild Challenge: Your Basket of Life

Each quilt show year, the guild issues a challenge to its members. This year's challenge quilts featured baskets "stuffed" with things that represent the quilter and her life.

AQS Wild Challenge

In 2006 our quild participated in the American Quilter's Society contest for their Nashville show. The challenge was to make a small quilt whose title included the word "WILD".

Chapter Round Robin Quilts

In the two years since our last show, several chapters have sponsered "round robin" groups. These included the traditional center medallion type and the row-by-row type.

2007 Raffle Quilt

The raffle quilt for our 2007 show was entitled Springtime Baskets from Jefferson's Country Garden.
Over 2300 tickets were sold; a significant portion of the proceeds from this raffle was donated to the Charlottesville Free Clinic. Janet Saulsbury designed the quilt and coordinated the project.
