The James River Arts Council
(formerly The Scottsville Council for the Arts)

Welcome To All

The James River Arts Council is dedicated to promoting a greater understanding and appreciation of all the arts through education, encouragement and support of arts organizations and local talent, and by providing art information to the Scottsville and surrounding region.JRAC was formerly the Scottsville Council of the Arts, but we have grown over the past few years and our new name better reflects the larger region we support.

This year's annual photo show is a great example of how we have grown. With participants from as far north as Alexandria, westward to Lexington and down to Lynchburg we don't want to limit ourselves to the town of Scottsville.

Our location on the web has changed too. Our new address is http://avenue.org/jrac and our new email address is JRAC@avenue.org. Please change any bookmarks you may have for the SCA and update your email address book. If you're not sure how to do this the old SCA address will still work.

JRAC is now hosting Viewpoints, the 2008 Annual Photography Show. Details are now available and we hope to have a review of the show on our website soon.

Please excuse our appearance while we update our website. Content will be made available as it is converted to our new design. You can contact us via email at JRAC@avenue.org.

New Members

The slate of new members include Peter Delis, LeeAnn Grove, Pete Hellmann, and Graham Paige. Peter Delis, LeeAnn Grove and Graham Paige are being elected for a three year term. Pete Hellmann will complete the remaining year of Peter Scherman's term.

Peter Delis is a retired Charlottesville businessman who lives in Keene. An avid photographer, he has served as Administrator of last year's photography show. He is active in the SCA Photography Group and the committe planning the 2008 SCA Photography Show. LeeAnn Grove and her husband moved to Scottsville with their son recently. Interested in the community and the arts, LeeAnn is anxious to become involved in the SCA. Another photographer, Pete Hellmann has won numerous awards for his photography, including the 2007 SCA Photography Show and the "New River Art 2007" exhibition in Blacksburg. The Schuyler resident currently has a solo exhibition at the Altavista Arts Council. Graham Paige, of Esmont, is a returning Board member. Active in a wide variety of civic and cultural activities, Graham's return provides a welcome connection with the SCA's past.

Additional Business

In addition to electing new directors, the annual meeting will include reports about the 4th Annual Photography Show, plans for a Classical Music Series and the Scottsville Presbyterian Church and other events. Come share your ideas on additional ways the SCA can serve our community as well as find out what is planned already.

We want to thank Edna Anderson, Peter Scherman, Richard Sipes and Eleanor Winsor for their service on the Board. The past years have been active ones for the Council and their leadership has been instrumental in starting new programs, such as the Photography Show, the Writing and Poetry Grouos and special music events.
