On 27-28 October 2007, Scottsville Museum and the All-American Honor Guard (AAHG) hosted a military history weekend to honor the service of our military veterans. During the weekend event attendees had the privilege to talk with veterans of
WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq as well as soldiers who served in our country's military during peacetime. We are most grateful
for the freedom our military men and women have preserved for us.
History enthusiasts of all ages stopped by the Museum and Canal Basin Square on this beautiful autumn weekend to learn more
about our country's military history. Foot traffic across Main Street was often thick as over 600 people spectators attended the event, leading
one senior observer to remark, "This reminds me of Saturday in Scottsville when I was growing up!" Exciting education was happening at Canal
Basin and at the Museum. A dad and his three young sons toured the Museum's WWII exhibit and then headed over to chat with the AAHG
reenactors. When they returned to the Barclay House for donuts and cider, the 9 yr. old son animately said, "I keep a journal for my
history school work, and today I have LOTS to write about!"
We want thank Scottsville Museum's volunteers, the All-American Honor Guard, and our veterans for all their support to this exciting event. Photos of
the weekend follow below.
