Homeless Children Have Rights

Children of homeless individuals and each homeless youth have the right to the same free appropriate public education, including a preschool education, as provided to other children and youth.

Homeless children and youth have the right to:

• Stay in their old school or go to the school near where they are staying.
• immediate enrollment, even without school records or medical records.
• transportation to that school, if needed

Homeless children are automatically eligible for free meals programs
