The TJACH Reentry Initiative began meeting in June 2004 to address barriers facing ex-offenders re-joining the community, and quickly identified the following barriers:
Ex-offenders are barred from most public assistance, including food stamps and school loans. Some lack identification when released.
The Charlottesville Salvation Army has graciously offered a van to provide transportation for anyone in need to obtain birth certificates in Richmond and to get a state ID card from the DMV in Wayneboro. OAR is working with volunteers from Living Stones Church, New Millenium Church, PACEM, and First Presbyterian Church to provide guidance through the application process. There will be two ID rides, one to Richmond and one to Waynesboro. Reservations are required. For the dates and more information call: Betty Kerr at OAR at 434-296-2441, ext 125
Group departs from OAR offices at 750 Harris St. at 9:00 a.m.
