The Artists


Nicholas Harvey (trumpet) is a music industry major at James Madison University. After graduating, he plans on working in music production.

Robert Graham (trombone) graduated with high honors from Indiana University and has served on the faculty at Pittsburg (Kansas) State University, Louisiana State University, and the University of Virginia. He has performed with several American orchestras.

Dwight Purvis (French horn) received music degrees from the Universityof Kansas and The Florida State University. He performs with the Charlottesville and University Symphony Orchestra, the Albemarle Ensemble, and the Virginia Brass Quintet, and he conducts the U. Va. Wind Ensemble and Brass Ensemble.

James Kluesner (trumpet) is Professor of Trumpet and Instrumental Area Coordinator at the James Madison University School of Music. He has degrees from the University of Iowa and Northwestern University and is a recipient of the Carl Harder Distinguished Teacher Award. He is currently a member of the Madison Brass Quintet and the Skyline Brass Ensemble. Mr. Kluesner formerly taught at institutions in Minnesota and Germany.

Bruce Penner (percussion) received college degrees in music as a performer, educator and composer in Kansas and Buffalo, N. Y., then came to Charlottesville, where he has studied music of West African, Caribbean and South Asian cultures.

Linda Hanson (organ) is Minister of Music at Westminster Presbyterian Church and Music Director of the Organ Concert Series. She holds music degrees from Boston University and is a Colleague of the American Guild of Organists and past dean of the Charlottesville/Albemarle chapter.
