The Artists

James Diaz, the First Prize winner of the 2000 Dallas
International Organ Competition and the Gold Medallist and Concerto Prize Winner
of the 1994 Calgary International Organ Festival Competition, is a summa cum laude
graduate of the University of Michigan.
In addition to giving recitals throughout North America and Europe, Mr. Diaz has
given the world premiere of organ and orchestra works by two Pulitzer Prize winning
composers: Joseph Schwantner’s September Canticle with the Dallas
Symphony, and Gunther Schuller’s Concerto for Organ and Orchestra with
the Calgary Philharmonic. His recording of the Schuller concerto has been released
by New World Records, and last spring he recorded a solo CD at the Meyerson
Symphony Center for future release by Delos International.
Hyeon Jeong, the First Prize winner of the Fort Wayne National Organ
Competition and the Flint International Organ Competition, holds the Doctor of
Musical Arts Degree in Organ Performance from the University of Michigan, where
she was granted the Regent Fellowship. After graduation she taught at Indiana
University-Purdue University in Indianapolis. She also won several prizes in other
prestigious national and international organ competitions such as the Concours
International d’Orgue de Chartres, the Dublin International Organ Competition,
and the Mader National Organ Competition.
As an active recitalist, Jeong has performed both organ and harpsichordin Europe
and Asia as well as North America. Her performances have been featured on many
broadcasts including Minnesota Public Radio’s internationally syndicated
broadcast program Pipedreams.
The concert is free and open to the public. Ample parking is available
behind the church, and the sanctuary is wheelchair-accessible. For more
