The Artist

Albrecht von Gaudecker was born in Hannover, Germany, and began his piano studies at the age of six and his organ studies at the age of twelve. After finishing high school and a two years’ apprenticeship for horticulture in Hildesheim, he studied Sacred Music with Johannes Schaefer at Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar. After pre-diploma, he continued his studies at Hochschule für Musik and darstellende Kunst in Hamburg with Wolfgang Zerer, where he completed his Diploma B of Sacred Music. During his studies in Hamburg, he served for two years as a church music assistant at Main Church, St. Petri/Hamburg. He received his Diploma A of Sacred Music in Lübeck in 2000, studying with Jürgen Essl.

After finishing his studies in Sacred Music, he served for three months as a volunteer in Orissa, India, where he taught choirs and brass, as well as teaching students from Orissa Church Theological College. He continued his studies at Martin Luther University Halle/Wittenberg (piano with Marco Antonio de Almeida) and Hochschule für Musick Leipzig (organ with Arvid Gast), where he received his Artist Diploma in organ. He took part in master classes with Ludger Lohmann, Jon Laukvik, Stefan Engels, Harald Vogel, Lois Robillard, Michael Radulescu and others.

As a recitalist, Albrecht von Gaudecker has performed in Germany, Austria, Poland, the Netherlands, and in other European countries.

After settling in the United States, he was organist and choirmaster at St. James Church in Louisa, Virginia. He is currently the organist at St. Paul’s Memorial Church, Charlottesville.
